    Forms!

    After weeks of waiting, the website forms are finally ready!  We greatly appreciate your patience! Please go to http://goband.org/ and click on the Forms tab.  There are TWO forms to fill out:  The first is the Information and Contribution Form.  This page is linked with PayPal, as the contribution, buttons, and auto decals are handled on this page.  Everyone enrolled in band needs to fill out this form.  We need the information for our records, and the contribution is extremely important.  The costs for music, music arrangements, drill writing, bussing, website expenses, trailer expenses, etc, add up rapidly.  We count on the contribution to fund the majority of our year, and with our fundraising efforts going to the trip the past two years, the contribution this year is more important than ever.

Week of April 18th

We’re coming up on our final events of the year.  Parents of seniors–I’m sure there are a lot of mixed emotions!  We have a couple more events that require your help.

Jazz Cafe–Monday, April 24 at East High in the Commons.  The concert starts at 7:00 PM, and we need a few people to help both before and after  Click HERE to sign up!  This is a very special and fun night–you won’t want to miss it!  We also need some strings of white lights–if you have some that you can lend to the evening, we would appreciate it.  You can sign up for a spot at the above link.

Band Concert & Awards Night–Tuesday, May 9 in the Auditorium. The concert starts at 6:00 PM.  We need help both before and after the concert.  Click HERE to help.  This also is a fabulous evening that you won’s want to miss.  It is the last performance of the year for each band, band letters and special recognition awards will be given, and the world premier of the 2016-17 of the East Band DVD will be held.

Important Note:  Treats are provided by our Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior families.  Freshmen–each student please bring one dozen cookies.  Sophomores–each student please bring one dozen brownies.  Juniors–each student please bring one dozen cupcakes.

Week of April 3rd

  • April Booster Meeting This Thursday! All Students/Parents enrolled in Band next school year.  South Gym, 6:00 PM
  • There are many changes on deck for the band program, all of them good!  If your student is enrolled in band this fall, attendance at this meeting is a must.
  • District Music Contest, Monday, April 10! We need your help!
  • East is once again hosting this annual event, and we need your help!  Fewer than half of the openings have been filled as of today. Click here to sign up.There are times available all throughout the day.  Consider taking a long lunch, or taking an hour of vacation time at the start or end of your work day to come out and help. Band, Orchestra and Choir students from all of the Lincoln public high schools will be coming to East, and they have been working hard to prepare their music.  Let’s welcome them as a well-staffed contest site, so they can focus on their performances.  Thanks!

Week of March 20th

Band Announcements

Week of March 20th

  • Prep Jazz is back on schedule.  “Spring Swing” is this Saturday, March 25th! Jazz Horizons will play at 4:00pm, Jazz Faction will play at 4:15pm, and Blue Note Jazz Band will play at 6:45pm. There will be food and dancing as well, so even if you’re not in jazz band, come out to Northeast High School for a great evening!
  • Also, all Jazz Bands will travel to Norfolk on Tuesday, March 28th for the Northeast Community College Jazz Festival. Wish them luck!
  • MANDATORY Parent and student meeting for all enrolled in Band next year on Thursday, April 6th at 6:00pm in the South (main) Gym.  We moved it up to 6:00 and the Choir concert has been moved back to 7:30 so that students and parents can do both if needed.
  • Volunteers needed!  We will have sign-ups soon for Monday, April 10th when we host District Music Contest.
  • Our “Pre-Contest” Concert will be Monday, April 3rd at 7:00pm in the Auditorium.
  • If you didn’t come to get your suitcase on Saturday from the San Fran trip, it is in the storage room and you can pick it up after school.

Please share this information with your student so they know what to expect. See www.goband.org and the attachments to this email to determine what to pack, and check the 10-day forecast for San Francisco.  The itinerary is attached, and you can see that it is packed. Comfort is key!

What happens on Monday, March 6?

ALL luggage must be brought to school at 6:00 PM for inspection.  (This does not include backpacks–those are a personal item and do not require inspection per LPS guidelines. Bring those Saturday.) Follow the signs–you will either enter through the band room or choir room.
Students will pick up their orange travel t-shirts when they bring their luggage for inspection.  Those that ordered blue or white trip t-shirts should plan on picking those up at this time, as well.  
After the luggage is inspected:  Carry-on luggage will be securely stored at school until Saturday’s departure. (Those meeting at East to ride the bus for Omaha flights will get their luggage before loading the bus. The luggage for the Lincoln flight will be delivered to the airport.) Truck luggage will be loaded immediately after inspection.

Instruments will be loaded on the truck.  Flute and clarinet players can choose to pack their instruments in their luggage, but we will have tubs on the truck to contain these smaller instruments. Be sure you have everything you need for your instrument–extra reeds, valve oil, etc.

The truck will be leaving Lincoln on Tuesday afternoon.

Apparel

All students that are traveling will receive a trip t-shirt that they will wear on travel days. It is a beautiful bright orange.  If you or your student would like to order this same design in either East blue or white, please print out the attached order form.  The deadline for ordering is this Friday, February, 24,  2017


Important Survey

From Mr. Thorpe’s announcement:  Please complete the following survey regarding baggage on the trip.  This affects 0ur truck packing plans and some other transportation factors like how many bags we’ll be transporting to the airport versus how many will go on the truck.  This needs to be done

Week of February 13th

REMINDER Final TRIP Payment due no later than Thursday, February 16th prior to midnight.  The payment site will not be available on Friday, February 17th.

Looking for something inexpensive but incredibly entertaining to do for Valentine’s Day?  Come to the Lincoln East Orchestra’s Finale Concert!  This is always a fantastic show.  We have band kids that also play in the orchestra, and many of our Wind Symphony students will be joining the orchestra for the second half of the performance.

Take the night off from cooking this Thursday and join us in the cafeteria for Tri-M’s Third Annual Souper Bowl Solo & Ensemble Night!  Enjoy some soup, and support our students as they preview the pieces they will be playing at the District Solo & Ensemble Contest this Saturday at Northstar High School.  The evening begins at 5:30PM, and will wrap up at 7:30PM. The cost is $5.00, with kids 12 and under eating free.

Week of January 30

MANDATORY Trip Meeting This Thursday!

Our February Booster Meeting will focus on the trip.  All students and parents need to attend if at all possible.  Barb­­ with Travel with Barb will be with us to go over the itinerary and answer any questions we may have.

Keep in mind: The final trip payment amount will probably not be announced.  It is still a little early for this number to be determined.  We want an accurate number, and we also want to avoid confusion, so it is in our best interest to be patient and wait.

Another note regarding the last payment:  PLEASE DON’T MAKE THE PAYMENT YET!  Budget for the full amount of $325, but please don’t send it.  Should this payment go down, we will need to send out refunds, and that is a lot of extra work for our treasurer. We love our treasurer–please don’t create extra work for her!

Week of January 23rd

Trip, Trip, Trip!

Regarding payments:  We should now be paid up thru the 5th payment.  If you need to find out how much is in your student’s account from fundraising to make this payment, please contact Tricia Kehn at tkehn@hotmail.com.

Final Payment:  Be watching email and website correspondence on WHEN and HOW MUCH the 6th payment will be.

San Francisco Info Meeting:  Thursday night, February 2nd at 7:00pm in the Auditorium.  This meeting is REQUIRED for students and parents. At this meeting we will go over all final details, including hotel, airline, packing, and performance details.  You will also be able to meet chaperones and get to know your travel group.

*Please note that due to Parent Teacher Conferences being on February 6th from 4-7pm, our concert time was moved back ½ hour to a 7:30pm start.
